In der Forschung wurden Mädchen und ihre Geschlechterkonstruktionen in Jugendkulturen und der Jugendsoziologie lange Zeit nur in Publikationen der Gender-Forschung und in feministischen Diskursen beschrieben. Doch dieses Thema ist auch allgemein sozialwissenschaftlich suitable. Junge Frauen sind in allen Jugendkulturen aktiv und entwickeln eine Vielzahl von Strategien, Einstellungen, Rollenmustern und Ansichten.

Diese Arbeit beschäftigt sich mit Frauen und Mädchen in der der HipHop-Szene. HipHop wird wegen seiner sexistischen Inhalte und frauenfeindlichen Texte oft in der Öffentlichkeit diskutiert.
